Supporting managers in social care to create resilient teams led by Angela Hill

Overview

Creating a secure base and enhancing emotional literacy as a leadership trait.

In this workshop we will be looking at insights from the Social Work Organisational Resilience Diagnostic (SWORD) to help us reflect on how we can create a ‘secure base’ in our teams and organisations. Being able to create a secure base for social care workers to operate in is critical to organisational resilience.

A secure base is when:

  1. The organisation offers a sense of protection, belonging, safety and being valued and cared for. It also fosters a culture of mutual support.
  2. The organisation provides constructive challenge for workers to explore fears and concerns relating to their role and area of practice and organisational change.
  3. This ‘safe space’ provides support, giving renewed energy and resources for improved practice.

The workshop will offer an overview of the core strategies that can support you in developing a secure base in your organisation and will focus on two out of five core strategies, namely:

  1. Supporting and modelling emotion regulation
  2. Fostering a sense of belonging

Supporting and modelling emotion regulation is a core strategy for creating a secure base and emotional resilience is a key trait for managers.

You will have the opportunity in this workshop to reflect on both how you support your own emotion regulation and how you model it as a manager.

You will also be able to reflect on how to apply the concept of ‘Fika’ to foster a sense of belonging and how developing social connections is a vital tool in developing and maintaining our emotional resilience.

This workshop is for you if you want some practical ideas and the space to think about how to maintain and grow resilience in your organisation.
